DHAKA, March 23 (V7N) – The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has ordered the immediate removal of illegal shops, extensions, and commercial setups occupying pavements and roads across the capital.

In a notice issued today, the DMP said many restaurants, workshops, and retail outlets have expanded operations beyond their premises, obstructing footpaths and road spaces.

- Food establishments: cooking equipment such as burners, pots, grills, and kebab stations set up on sidewalks.

- Motor workshops: using pavements for tyre storage and vehicle repairs.

- Welding, furniture, and clothing shops: displaying goods and materials on public walkways.

The DMP stressed that such practices disrupt pedestrian movement, force people onto roads, and increase the risk of accidents and traffic congestion.

- Business owners have been urged to remove encroachments immediately.

- From April 1, mobile courts led by metropolitan and executive magistrates will conduct drives across the city.

- Violators may face imprisonment, fines, and confiscation of goods under relevant laws.

The notice also called for public cooperation in restoring free and safe pedestrian access throughout Dhaka.
