Narayanganj, Oct 18 (V7N) — A devastating fire broke out at a cloth shop in Kanchan Bazar of Rupganj upazila on Friday night, completely destroying the establishment and causing an estimated loss of Tk 15 lakh.

The blaze erupted around 10 pm at a store named “Goljar Bastra Bitan.” On receiving the news, a unit of the Kanchan River Fire Service rushed to the spot and managed to bring the fire under control after about 30 minutes of effort.

Station Officer Mahfuzur Rahman of the Fire Service said the fire is believed to have originated from an electrical short circuit, which quickly spread throughout the shop, reducing all the cloth and goods to ashes.

Shop owner Goljar Hossain lamented the loss, saying, “All the items in my shop, worth about Tk 15 lakh, were burnt to ashes in the fire.”

However, the Fire Service confirmed that no casualties were reported in the incident.
