Mongla, Nov 09 (V7N) — A courtyard meeting was held in Mongla upazila on Sunday morning to discuss the implementation of the 31-point agenda for national reform announced by BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman. The meeting took place at 10:30 a.m. in Ward No. 8 of Sundarban Union, organized by the local unit of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

Lion Dr. Sheikh Faridul Islam, Joint Convener of the Bagerhat District BNP and a nomination aspirant for the Mongla–Rampal–Fakirhat parliamentary constituency, attended the event as the chief guest. He had previously contested for the same seat with the BNP’s nomination.

In his address, Dr. Islam said that the Awami League has engaged in the politics of corruption and intimidation, while the BNP stands for the politics of equality and justice. “Whatever one’s political affiliation may be, everyone has the right to live peacefully in their own homes,” he stated. He urged party leaders and activists to refrain from engaging in politics of vengeance.

Dr. Islam emphasized that the development of the Mongla region and the country as a whole could be achieved through the responsible use of natural resources such as the sea, the Sundarbans, and the Mongla Port. “Those living near the Sundarbans must take responsibility for its protection. Livelihoods should be pursued in ways that cause no harm to this vital ecosystem,” he said.

He further pledged to continue the BNP’s movement against drugs and terrorism, highlighting the need for a peaceful, progressive, and corruption-free society.

The meeting was attended by several local BNP leaders, including Upazila BNP General Secretary Abu Hossain Poni, and party leaders Khanjahan Ali Sardar, Nasir Hawlader, and Nazrul Talukdar.

Locals at the gathering expressed optimism that the BNP’s 31-point reform plan, if implemented, could pave the way for good governance and sustainable development in the coastal region.
