New York, Nov 05 (V7N) — New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani said on Tuesday that the city stands “on the verge of making history.” Speaking to reporters after casting his vote on November 4, Mamdani emphasized that the election marks a defining moment for the city and its people.

“We are on the verge of making history in our city,” Mamdani stated. “At the same time, we are on the verge of bidding farewell to old-style politics.”

When asked about President Donald Trump’s warning that federal funding could be withheld if he wins, Mamdani responded confidently, saying, “I am ready to fight for every dollar that rightfully belongs to our city.”

According to recent opinion polls, Democrat Zohran Mamdani holds a significant lead over independent candidate Andrew Cuomo and Republican contender Curtis Sliwa.

However, Trump has openly urged voters not to support Mamdani, warning that he would block federal funds for New York if Mamdani is elected mayor. Despite being a Republican himself, Trump has announced his endorsement for Andrew Cuomo — a registered Democrat running as an independent — in an unexpected political twist.

Political analysts suggest that Mamdani’s campaign, focused on affordable housing, workers’ rights, and climate resilience, has strongly resonated with younger and progressive voters across the city. The election results are expected to set the tone for New York’s future political direction, potentially signaling a major shift in the city’s leadership and policy priorities.
