HABIGANJ, Nov 05 (V7N) — A shocking incident has unfolded in Madhabpur upazila of Habiganj, where a man allegedly killed his wife over an extramarital affair suspicion and later surrendered to the court, confessing to the crime.

The deceased was identified as Shapla Akter, 25, while the accused husband, Rajon Mia, hails from the Surma police station area in Sylhet. Rajon, a local businessman, had been living with his wife in a rented house at Karra village under Noapara Union of Madhabpur upazila.

According to local sources, the couple frequently quarreled over suspicions of infidelity and domestic disputes. On Monday night, an argument escalated, leading Rajon to strangle his wife to death. He then hid her body inside a nearby sand pile before leaving the scene.

In a dramatic turn of events, Rajon appeared before the court the next morning and confessed to the murder. Acting on his statement, police from Madhabpur Police Station recovered Shapla’s body from the sand pile in Karra village later in the evening.

Madhabpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahid Ullah confirmed the incident, saying, “The body has been recovered and necessary procedures for post-mortem examination are underway.”

Local residents expressed shock and outrage over the killing, describing the couple as quiet and seemingly normal in recent days. Police said an investigation has been launched to determine if anyone else was involved or aware of the crime.
