Habiganj, Nov 16 (V7N) – The Habiganj-4 (Madhabpur–Chunarughat) constituency witnessed a sweeping wave of processions on Sunday afternoon as thousands of BNP supporters and local residents marched in favour of party-nominated candidate Syed Md. Foysal. Carrying replicas of the sheaf of paddy—the BNP’s election symbol—crowds from different areas of Shahjahanpur Union converged at Noahat Bazar, transforming the location into a massive political assembly.
From midday until late afternoon, continuous processions flowed through the union. By 4 p.m., the Noahat Bazar field was overflowing, leaving no space unoccupied as women, men, tea workers, farmers, labourers, and traders gathered in what locals described as one of the largest political gatherings in recent memory.
The event was presided over by Union BNP President Alfaz Miah. Addressing the crowd as the chief guest, BNP’s candidate Syed Md. Foysal said, “I am a son of this soil. Inspired by the ideals of the martyred President Ziaur Rahman, my goal is to serve the people. Today’s love and support give me strength.”
He added, “Under the leadership of Tarique Rahman, we want to build a Bangladesh where no one is neglected or persecuted for their political beliefs. A BNP government will ensure dignity and safety for all citizens.”
Criticizing the previous government, he alleged, “A particular party has destroyed democracy and taken away people’s freedom of expression. They fell because they lost the trust of the people. We do not want to follow that path—we want to move forward with justice, democracy, and fairness.”
District BNP Vice President and former Upazila Chairman Syed Md. Shahjahan told the crowd, “Today’s sea of people proves that a groundswell of support has risen in favour of the sheaf of paddy. No conspiracy can halt the love of the people.”
Other speakers included Upazila BNP President Shamsul Islam Kamal, General Secretary Hamidur Rahman Hamdu, Vice President and Chairman Parvez Hossain Chowdhury, Joint Secretary Hossain Md. Rofiq, and Municipal BNP General Secretary Alauddin Alrani.
Throughout the day, Noahat Bazar was filled with a festive atmosphere. Large groups of tea workers—both women and men—marched to the venue playing traditional instruments, adding to the excitement of the gathering.
Locals remarked that such a large political assembly had not been seen in the area in recent years. They noted that the massive turnout demonstrated growing confidence in the BNP and a sharp rise in support for the sheaf of paddy, suggesting the party’s strengthening position ahead of the upcoming national election.
