Dhaka, Nov 17 (V7N) – A suspected act of arson took place at the South Keraniganj Police dumping area on Sunday around 10:00 p.m., authorities and eyewitnesses reported.
Sajedul Kabir Jowardar, Senior Station Officer of Postgola Fire Service, confirmed that fire units responded promptly to the scene after receiving a report of the blaze. According to initial assessments and eyewitness accounts, the fire appeared to have been deliberately set. A parked leguna vehicle at the site was completely burned. Two fire service units successfully brought the fire under control.
An eyewitness woman reported that she screamed when the fire started and saw two individuals fleeing the scene, though she could not identify them in the darkness.
South Keraniganj Police Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Akhtar Hossain acknowledged the fire but stated to the media that it appeared to have started from waste materials at the dumping site.
Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage and gathering witness statements to determine the cause of the fire and whether it was indeed deliberate. No casualties have been reported.
This incident has raised concerns about safety at municipal dumping sites and the need for increased monitoring to prevent potential criminal activities.
