KANTHALIA, February 26, (V7N) — Since Md. Abu Naser Raihan took charge as the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kathalia Police Station, the local law and order situation has seen a significant turnaround. Residents report a sharp decline in violent crimes, including communal clashes, vandalism, and looting, while a vigorous crackdown on narcotics has restored a sense of security to the upazila.
OC Raihan has quickly earned a reputation as a "people’s officer." Citizens visiting the station for legal assistance noted that, unlike previous administrative hurdles, the current OC maintains an open-door policy. Many, speaking on the condition of anonymity, expressed that he listens to their grievances with patience and ensures swift legal action, making the police station a more accessible and trusted institution for the general public.
In a recent statement regarding his approach to policing, OC Md. Abu Naser Raihan emphasized that his primary motivation is moral duty. "It is my responsibility to provide full cooperation to those in need. As long as I serve at Kathalia Police Station, I am committed to ensuring the safety of people from all walks of life, Insha Allah," he said. He urged the residents of Kathalia to remain law-abiding and to support the police in establishing a firm rule of law.
The OC’s proactive stance has been particularly evident in recent weeks, as the station has intensified its anti-drug operations and mediated several long-standing local disputes before they could escalate into violence. His "zero-tolerance" policy toward criminals has sent a clear message across the upazila: "My promise is that no one who commits wrongdoing will be spared," he reiterated.
Community leaders and social activists in Kathalia have welcomed this administrative shift, noting that the increased visibility of police patrols and the prompt response to 999 calls have significantly deterred potential troublemakers. The reduction in crime has also had a positive impact on local businesses, which now operate with greater confidence during evening hours.
As part of the government's broader initiative to modernize the police force and enhance public trust, the success in Kathalia is being viewed as a model for other upazilas in the Jhalakathi district. The local administration hopes that this momentum will continue, fostering a safer and more peaceful environment for all citizens.
