PABNA, March 7, 2026 (V7N) -A mobile court in Pabna fined Jamaat leader Jahangir Alam alias Alam Haji Tk 90,000 on Saturday for illegally storing fuel oil at an unauthorized pump in Islampur village, Hemayetpur union, Sadar upazila.
The raid, led by Executive Magistrate Abdul Alim, was conducted following intelligence from the National Security Intelligence Service (NSI). Large quantities of fuel were found stored in plastic tanks in unsafe conditions near the local mosque.
Locals alleged that Alam Haji, chairman of Rokan and Hemayetpur Union Parishads and a Jamaat leader, had repeatedly operated the pump without proper documents, creating instability in the market. Despite past incidents—including a 2021 explosion that killed two workers—the pump continued operations.
During the two-hour raid, the authorities found no legal approval or documentation for storing and selling petrol. The fine was imposed on Alam Haji’s brother Abdul Hannan, who was identified as the pump’s director.
Residents expressed anger over what they described as a “light sentence,” saying imprisonment or criminal charges should have been pursued given the repeated violations. Witnesses claimed the administration had previously shown leniency despite clear evidence of illegal activity.
Magistrate Abdul Alim said: “As evidence of illegal activities was found, according to the Mobile Court Act, a warning and fine have been issued and time has been given to correct the documents. Strict action will be taken if correction is not made.”
When contacted, Jahangir Alam denied the allegations, claiming his brother was responsible for the pump and insisting that all documents were in order.
