RAJSHAHI, Mar 8, (V7N) – A brutal attack was carried out on Rezaul Karim, president of the Barendra Press Club in Rajshahi, on Saturday night, leaving him seriously injured.

The incident occurred around 8:30 pm in front of the Press Club office when a group of 25–30 armed men, allegedly led by Noor‑e‑Islam Milon, attacked Karim with sharp weapons. Eyewitnesses said Karim was speaking with a colleague when the assailants struck, stabbing him multiple times. Panic spread in the area as the attackers fled, leaving behind a car that police later seized.

Karim was rescued by colleagues and rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMC), where doctors performed surgery before admitting him to Ward No. 2. Hospital sources confirmed he sustained multiple serious injuries.

Locals alleged that Noor‑e‑Islam Milon, accused in several criminal cases, has long used political influence to establish a reign of terror in the area. He has previously faced charges of extortion, tender manipulation and violence. Though arrested by RAB in earlier cases, residents claim he became reckless again after securing bail.

Boalia Model Police Station Officer‑in‑Charge Rabiul Islam said police visited the scene immediately after receiving information. An investigation is underway to identify those involved. No case had been filed as of Sunday afternoon.
