JHALOKATI, Mar 9–10, (V7N) – A series of incidents unfolded across Jhalakathi district over the past two days, ranging from road accidents and criminal arrests to community awareness programmes and allegations of corruption.

Auto driver Khokon Molla was seriously injured Monday afternoon when his autorickshaw collided with a speeding vehicle on the road between Basonda Bridge and the Youth Development Office. Locals rescued him and took him to Jhalakathi Sadar Hospital, where his condition later deteriorated, prompting preparations for transfer to another facility. Residents urged authorities to install signboards and strengthen traffic management on the busy, narrow road.

The Special Task Force (STF) of West Bengal Police arrested Faisal Karim Masud, the prime accused in the murder of Inqilab Manch spokesperson Shaheed Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, along with associate Alamgir Hossain, from Bangaon, North 24 Parganas.
At a press conference in Nalchiti, Hadi’s sister Masuma Hadi demanded exemplary punishment and a UN‑supervised charge sheet to ensure justice, stressing that masterminds behind the killing must be identified.

Businessman Anwar Hossain filed a complaint after miscreants destroyed more than 150 sanitary ring slabs worth Tk 150,000 at his enterprise in Banai village, Kanthalia upazila on Sunday night. Police confirmed receipt of the complaint and said legal action is underway.

Rajapur upazila observed National Disaster Preparedness Day‑2026 on Tuesday with the theme “We will fight in disaster preparedness, build the Bangladesh of youth.” A rally, discussion meeting, and disaster management exercise were held, involving officials, fire service members, volunteers, students, and residents. Speakers emphasized youth involvement in disaster response to minimize damage.

Nalchiti Upazila Project Implementation Officer (PIO) Awlad Hossain has been accused of taking Tk 9,000 in bribes in connection with a TR project for filling soil at Mallikpur government cemetery. A written complaint was submitted to the Jhalakathi Deputy Commissioner, who confirmed that the matter is under investigation by the DD LG office, with further action to follow upon report submission.
