Dhaka, Mar 10, 2026 (V7N) – The Ministry of Home Affairs today held a meeting to review a proposal to create 4,000 Sub-Inspector (SI) posts to strengthen the capacity of Bangladesh Police in maintaining law and order across the country.
According to ministry officials, the review meeting was held this afternoon at the ministry’s conference room with Senior Secretary Manzur Morshed Chowdhury in the chair.
The meeting discussed a proposal submitted by the Police Department seeking the creation of 4,000 Grade-10 (Unarmed) SI posts in various units under the organisational structure of Bangladesh Police.
Officials said the initiative is part of efforts to address manpower shortages in the police force and strengthen operational capabilities in maintaining public security.
Soon after assuming office, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed raised the issue of recruitment to resolve staffing shortages at different levels of the police.
During a meeting with the heads of various departments under the ministry on February 23, the minister directed authorities to take immediate steps to fill all vacant posts and instructed officials to expedite the recruitment process for constable positions.
Later, on February 26, he also announced the immediate recruitment of 180 vacant posts of police sergeants.
Recruitment notices for both constable and sergeant positions have already been published and the application process has begun.
Officials believe the proposed recruitment of additional Sub-Inspectors will significantly enhance the operational capacity of the police force and contribute to improved law and order management across the country.
