Dhaka, Mar 10 (V7N) – Prime Minister Tarique Rahman inaugurated a new humanitarian initiative today by distributing family cards to women and children living in Karail, Sattala, and Bhashantek slums in the capital. The program aims to provide direct financial assistance to marginalized communities through mobile financial services.

During the launch, cards were handed over to 15 women, marking the pilot phase of the project. Initially, around 37,567 people from 15 wards across 13 districts are set to benefit from the family card program.

The initiative, organized under the leadership of Social Welfare Minister Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain, is planned to expand nationwide in phases following the pilot, with full rollout expected by June 30.

Officials emphasized that the program will prioritize transparency, ensuring that only the poorest families receive benefits regardless of political affiliation. In the long term, the government plans to integrate the country’s 95 social security programs into a unified digital framework to improve accessibility and efficiency.
