Dhaka, Oct 20 (V7N)- Mahanavami, one of the significant days of the autumn Durga Puja festival, is being observed with special worship and religious ceremonies at the Dhakeshwari National Temple and other puja mandaps across Bangladesh.
At the Dhakeshwari Temple in the capital, the prescribed worship began at the main mandap shortly after 7am on Tuesday. A fire sacrifice was also held at the temple’s old shrine, alongside other traditional rituals.
The temple premises echoed with the chanting of mantras and prayers as devotees gathered from early morning to worship Goddess Durga. Large numbers of worshippers and visitors arrived at the temple to take part in the ceremonies.
Mahanavami holds special significance for followers of the Hindu faith, as it marks one of the final major days of Durga Puja. The festival will conclude with Vijaya Dashami on Wednesday, when devotees will bid farewell to Goddess Durga through traditional immersion rituals.
Although the celebrations continue with devotion and enthusiasm, the approaching farewell brings an emotional note for many worshippers.
Devotees expressed hope that people across Bangladesh would live together peacefully, regardless of religious differences, and that harmony, happiness and prosperity would prevail in everyone’s lives.
