Dhaka, Oct 14 (V7N) – The government has extended the deadline for submitting bids under its Offshore Bidding Round 2026 to March 31, 2027, extending it by four months from the previous deadline of November 30, 2026, following requests from international oil companies (IOCs).
The Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry issued a press release here today saying that the data-sale packages were made more accessible for the bidding round to encourage participation.
The ministry said the decision followed recent discussions with several internationally renowned oil companies and their requests regarding the bidding process. The extended deadline will give interested companies more time to assess available data and prepare their bids for offshore exploration, it added.
The ministry expected the deadline extension and improved access to data packages to boost international oil companies' interest in the bidding round.
The Offshore Bidding Round 2026 was launched in March 2026, offering 26 offshore blocks—11 shallow-water and 15 deep-sea blocks—under the Offshore Model Production Sharing Contract (PSC) 2026. The bidding round is part of the government's efforts to attract international investment in offshore oil and gas exploration and reduce the country's dependence on imported energy. The government has been pursuing various initiatives to boost domestic gas production, including drilling new wells and exploring offshore blocks, as part of its broader strategy to ensure energy security.
