Dhaka, Oct 13 (V7N) – Education Minister Dr A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milon today stressed the need for teachers to acquire comprehensive knowledge of technology and artificial intelligence (AI) to effectively educate students in an increasingly technology-driven world.

He said students are now highly proficient in information technology, making it essential for teachers to update their technological skills and knowledge. The minister made the remarks while inaugurating an orientation training course for the 49th BCS (General Education) cadre officers at the Rural Development Academy (RDA) in Bogura.

Addressing the newly recruited education cadre officers, Milon said an ideal teacher's primary responsibility was to create opportunities for students sitting at the back of classrooms who lacked the confidence to ask questions. He emphasised the importance of research in improving the education system and developing the teaching community, adding that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman had given the highest priority to the education sector. The Education Minister urged teachers to perform their duties with dedication and sincerity, rising above political affiliations and differences to help build a modern and developed Bangladesh.

Training Programme

A total of 613 newly recruited BCS General Education cadre officers are participating in the eight-day orientation programme. Secretary (routine charge) of the Secondary and Higher Education Division Dr Sardar Md Keramat Ali presided over the programme. Rezaul Karim Badsha, MP, BNP Executive Committee member and Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal Vice-President Nazmun Nahar Baby, Director General of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education Prof Dr Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel and Acting Director General of RDA Bogura Md Abdul Majid Pramanik attended the event as special guests. Director General of the National Academy for Educational Management (NAEM) Prof Dr Wasim Md Mezbahaul Haque delivered the welcome address.

Supplementary Examinations for SSC

Speaking to journalists after the programme, Milon said the government was planning to arrange supplementary examinations within 15 days of publishing Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination results for students who fail in up to two subjects. The initiative aims to prevent students from losing an entire academic year because of failure in a limited number of subjects, he said. However, students who fail to pass the supplementary examinations would be transferred to technical or vocational education streams, the minister added.

Khan Academy Programme Launch

Later, Milon formally inaugurated Khan Academy Bangladesh's educational support programme at 100 educational institutions in Bogura, Netrokona and Cox's Bazar districts. He also planted a commemorative tree on the premises of RDA Laboratory School and College.
