Paris, Oct 20 (V7N) – French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu said Tuesday that authorities would mobilise a "massive" security presence next weekend, with organisers announcing plans for new protests after riots erupted on the sidelines of nationwide demonstrations.

"The deployment for next Saturday will be massive," Lecornu said in parliament, acknowledging that the security operation for the protests last weekend had been "too static and not mobile enough."

The announcement comes after riots broke out during nationwide demonstrations in France, with protesters clashing with police and causing damage to property. The demonstrations are part of a broader wave of social unrest, with organisers planning further protests for the coming weekend. The French government has faced criticism over its handling of the security operation, with Lecornu's admission marking a rare acknowledgement of tactical shortcomings.

French authorities have been grappling with a series of protests in recent months, driven by economic grievances, rising costs of living, and opposition to government policies. The Interior Ministry has mobilised thousands of police officers to maintain order during demonstrations, but the scale and intensity of the unrest have tested security forces. Lecornu's promise of a "massive" deployment signals the government's determination to prevent a repeat of the violence seen last weekend.
