BOGURA, April 23 ( V7N )— A Bogura court today framed charges against former Acting Director General of the Rural Development Academy (RDA) M A Matin and his wife Sabina Afroze in a corruption case involving alleged illegal wealth accumulation.
Judge Ayez Uddin of the Bogura District Special Judge’s Court passed the order at noon under the Anti-Corruption Act. Both accused were present during the hearing.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) had earlier submitted a charge sheet on January 26, prepared by Assistant Director Md Zahidul Islam of the Bogura office. The case was formally filed on February 6, 2025.
ACC Public Prosecutor Mahbuba Khatun Sukhi confirmed that charges were framed under Section 26(2) of the law against Matin, while his wife faces charges under Sections 26(2) and 27(1). Trial proceedings will now begin.
Investigations revealed that Matin concealed information about immovable assets worth Tk 2,998,110 in his wealth statement. He also allegedly provided false information and assisted his wife in acquiring assets worth Tk 7,309,495 beyond known sources of income.
According to ACC findings, Matin misused his position at the Bogura RDA to acquire illegal wealth in his wife’s name. The prosecution argues that this constitutes a clear violation of the Anti-Corruption Act.
The case highlights ongoing efforts by the ACC to hold senior officials accountable for financial irregularities. Sukhi said: “Charges have been framed against M A Matin and his wife Sabina Afroze for acquiring assets beyond known sources of income. The trial will now proceed.”
The framing of charges marks a significant step toward trial, where evidence will be examined and witnesses called. If convicted, the accused could face imprisonment and fines under the provisions of the Anti-Corruption Act.
