Rangamati, Aug 11 (V7N)- Fishing has resumed in Kaptai Lake after a prolonged ban, bringing renewed activity among fishermen and traders in Rangamati.
Fishermen began entering the lake with boats and nets from midnight on Monday (August 10), following the end of the fishing ban.
The resumption of fishing has brought relief to fishing families who depend on the lake for their livelihoods. Fishermen are also hopeful of a good catch this season.
The district administration imposes a fishing ban every year to ensure the proper breeding, growth, conservation and balance of fish stocks in Kaptai Lake. Normally, the ban remains in effect from May 1 to July 31.
However, this year fishing was suspended earlier, on April 25, due to a rapid decline in the lake's water level. Although fishing was initially scheduled to resume on August 1, the ban was extended by another 10 days.
As a result, fishing remained suspended for a total of three months and 15 days this year.
During the ban, local ice factories also remained closed. With fishing now resumed, fishermen and traders expect economic activity around the lake to gradually return to normal.
