Narayanganj, Sep 11 (V7N) – In a shocking incident, an 80-year-old shrine located in Rupganj, Narayanganj, was demolished and set on fire after attackers gathered people using loudspeakers (miking). The shrine, belonging to Hazrat Hussain Ali Shah in Purbachal Sector 11, is commonly known as the Lengtar shrine.

According to Zakir Hossain, the caretaker (Khadem) of the shrine, the attack took place around 12:30 pm on Tuesday. A group of about 20-22 people, armed with indigenous weapons, stormed the shrine. They used a heavy-duty excavator to demolish the structure, then proceeded to vandalize a nearby tinshed mosque before setting both the shrine and the mosque on fire.

Local law enforcement, including Officer-in-Charge (OC) Liaqat Ali of Rupganj Police Station and the Company Commander of RAB-1, visited the scene on Wednesday morning. OC Liaqat Ali confirmed the incident, stating, "Miscreants attacked and vandalized the shrine at night, and the mosque was also set on fire."

Authorities have assured that legal action will be taken against those responsible for this heinous act, but no arrests have been reported so far.

The destruction of the Lengtar shrine, a significant religious site in the community, has caused shock and outrage in the area, with residents calling for swift justice.
