Dhaka Mar 04 (V7N) -A monitoring authority will be formed to oversee the management of seven government colleges previously affiliated with Dhaka University (DU).
The Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education issued a directive regarding this decision and sent it to the vice-chancellor of Dhaka University on Monday, reports BSS.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) and the principal of one of the seven colleges will lead this authority.
The Ministry of Education has recommended removing all academic activities of these colleges from DU. Until a new university is established, they will operate under this new structure.
The directive says that the UGC and a principal from the affiliated colleges will oversee all activities, with relevant DU administration officials involved.
The DU Syndicate and Academic Council have been instructed to finalize the matter quickly.
The newly established independent structure for managing these colleges will be called the "Monitoring Authority."
A UGC member will lead the authority, while one of the seven college principals will serve as its director.
For administrative operations, designated officers from the DU Registrar’s Office, Examination Controller’s Office, and Finance Department will handle the respective responsibilities.
The existing online admission committee of the seven colleges will manage the admission process.
This structure will serve as a temporary framework for overseeing the academic and administrative activities of these colleges.
On Thursday, the UGC sent a proposal regarding this matter to the Ministry of Education, which subsequently issued the directive based on the UGC's recommendations.
As per the recommendations, a temporary integrated structure will be established to manage all undergraduate and postgraduate programs of the seven colleges starting from the 2024-25 academic session.
Until a fully accredited university or equivalent institutional structure is established, this temporary framework will remain in charge.
The operations of this framework will take place outside Dhaka University’s campus, at an appropriate office designated from one of the seven colleges.
All financial transactions under this structure will be handled through a separate bank account under Dhaka University.
