Dhaka, May 16 (V7N) – Protesters from Jagannath University, including current and former students, teachers, and staff, have announced the addition of a new demand to their ongoing three-point movement, and declared a mass hunger strike starting today (Friday) at 11 AM near Kakrail intersection.

The move comes in response to what protesters described as the government’s inaction following the May 14 police attack on a peaceful long march towards the Chief Advisor's office. Demonstrators claim that no representative from the interim government has contacted them since the incident, prompting them to escalate their program of action.

The original three-point demands were:

  1. Residential scholarships for 70% of students

  2. No cuts in the proposed budget for the university

  3. Establishment of a permanent second campus

Now, they have added a fourth demand, the specifics of which are expected to be announced formally during the rally. Sources within the student body hinted that the new demand may relate to accountability for police action or formal engagement from the Chief Advisor's office.

Students began gathering at Kakrail intersection from early Friday morning. Organizers stated that the mass hunger strike will continue daily (excluding Fridays for religious observance) until all four demands are met.

The demonstration site has become a focal point for public attention, especially after the May 14 crackdown, which drew sharp criticism from student and academic communities. Protesters have vowed to continue their movement in a peaceful and disciplined manner despite the lack of official engagement.

Calls for dialogue and a swift resolution are mounting as the protest enters a more intensified phase.
