Dhaka, Dec 28 (V7N) — The Central Students’ Union of Dhaka University (DUCSU) has urged Jamaat-e-Islami to reconsider and reschedule its planned mass rally in the capital on January 3, citing concerns over severe disruption to students appearing for the Agricultural University admission test on the same day.

DUCSU made the appeal in an open letter issued on Saturday.

According to the letter, the Agricultural University admission test is scheduled to be held on January 3 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm, with lakhs of students expected to sit for the examination. Jamaat-e-Islami has announced its mass rally at 12:00 noon that day, raising fears of widespread traffic congestion across Dhaka.

DUCSU warned that such congestion could prevent examinees from reaching their exam centres on time, potentially jeopardizing the future of thousands of students. “Political programs in the capital often cause severe traffic jams, which can shatter the dreams of countless students,” the letter stated.

Referring to recent incidents, DUCSU highlighted the suffering of students during traffic disruptions caused by BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman’s visit to Dhaka University to pay respects at the grave of Osman Hadi. The letter claimed that many candidates appearing for DU’s ‘A’ Unit admission test were adversely affected due to traffic congestion linked to political activities.

Calling for responsible political conduct, DUCSU appealed to Jamaat-e-Islami to stand with students rather than become a cause of their hardship. “We urge Jamaat to act as a partner in building students’ dreams instead of being responsible for breaking them,” the letter said, requesting a change in the rally schedule in consideration of students’ interests.
