Dhaka, Feb 21 (V7N) — Leaders of the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) paid tribute to the martyrs of the Language Movement on the occasion of International Mother Language Day, but the ceremony has triggered controversy after an executive member alleged that several union members were not informed.

Allegation of Lack of Communication

DUCSU Executive Member Sarva Mitra Chakma expressed anger over the matter in a Facebook post at 12:48 pm on Friday.

Sharing a screenshot from a live broadcast of the tribute ceremony aired by Bangladesh Television (BTV), he claimed that many DUCSU members came to know about the wreath-laying only through the broadcast.

In his post, Sarva Mitra mentioned several names — including Hema Chakma, Fatema Tasnim Juma, Rafia, and Umme Salma — saying they were unaware of the program beforehand.

Ceremony at Shaheed Minar

According to the screenshot, DUCSU Vice President Sadiq Kayem and General Secretary SM Farhad, along with a few others, placed wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar to honor the language martyrs.

National Leaders Also Pay Tribute

Earlier in the early hours of Ekushey, President Md. Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman paid their respects at the Shaheed Minar, continuing the long-standing state tradition of honoring the sacrifices of 1952.

The allegation of poor coordination has sparked discussion within student circles, raising questions about internal communication within DUCSU during significant national observances.
