Feni June 7, (Voice7 News)- The deteriorating condition of Yakubpur Government Primary School in Daganbhooman has sparked concern among teachers, parents, and local residents. Despite being the only two-story building in the upazila, the school has become nearly unusable within just 10 years of its construction, which cost half a million rupees. Allegations of poor construction quality surfaced during the initial protests by teachers, parents, and residents, but these concerns were ignored by the authorities, leading to the current state of disrepair.

With cracks appearing throughout the building, rainwater seeping through during the monsoon, and various structural issues, the safety of students and staff is compromised. The situation has prompted calls for urgent action, including demands for a new building by the school's vice president, Ali Mortuza.

The head teacher, Akalima Akhtar, expressed deep concern about conducting class activities in such hazardous conditions, emphasizing the need for immediate intervention from higher authorities. Parents are also expressing their reluctance to continue sending their children to a school housed in such a dangerous building, opting to seek admission elsewhere.

Former Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nahida Akhtar visited a similar dilapidated school building and allocated resources from the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief to address the situation. However, the current upazila executive officer, Nivedita Chakma, has pledged to take swift action to address the issue, including plans to build a temporary tin shed house within the school premises for alternative class activities.

The urgency of the situation is underscored by the imminent danger posed to the students and staff of Yakubpur Government Primary School, necessitating immediate intervention and long-term solutions to ensure a safe learning environment.
