Dhaka, Jan 05, (V7N) - Renowned Bangladeshi actor Prabir Mitra has passed away. He breathed his last on Sunday at 10:10 PM while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the capital. His youngest son, Sifat Islam, confirmed the heartbreaking news.
President of the Artists' Association, Misha Sawdagor, also confirmed the actor’s demise. Expressing his grief, he stated, "Prabir Mitra is no longer with us. Following Anjana's passing, his death has deepened our sorrow."
The 83-year-old actor had been admitted to the hospital for 13 days due to various health complications, including oxygen deficiency. On December 22, his condition worsened, leading to his hospitalization at a private facility in Dhaka, where his health continued to decline.
Born on August 18, 1943, in Chandina, Comilla, Prabir Mitra’s full name was Prabir Kumar Mitra. Raised in Old Dhaka, he developed an early interest in acting during his school days. He first performed in Rabindranath Tagore’s play Dak Ghar as a student.
Prabir Mitra made his cinematic debut in 1969, appearing in the late H. Akbar’s film Jolchhobi. However, the movie was released on January 1, 1971.
The entertainment industry mourns the loss of a versatile artist whose contributions will remain etched in the history of Bangladeshi cinema.
