Mumbai, Oct 21 (V7N) — Veteran Bollywood actor Govardhan Asrani, popularly known simply as Asrani, has passed away at the age of 84 after a prolonged illness.
The beloved comic actor breathed his last in Mumbai, and his last rites were performed at the Santacruz crematorium on Monday.
Asrani began his acting career in the 1960s and quickly became a household name in Hindi cinema with his remarkable comic timing and versatile performances. His iconic role as the eccentric jailer in the 1975 blockbuster “Sholay” remains one of the most memorable characters in Indian film history.
Over a career spanning six decades, Asrani appeared in hundreds of films, leaving an indelible mark on the industry. Some of his most notable works include “Dhamaal,” “Hera Pheri,” “Hulchul,” and “Khatta Meetha.”
The Hindi film fraternity and fans across generations are mourning the loss of the legendary actor, whose humor, warmth, and unforgettable expressions made him one of Bollywood’s most cherished performers.
