Mumbai, Apr 12 (V7N) – Legendary Indian playback singer Asha Bhosle has passed away at the age of 92. She breathed her last at a private hospital in Mumbai on Sunday after battling heart and respiratory complications.
She had been suffering from age-related illnesses for several months and was admitted to the hospital on Saturday. Her condition worsened later that night, leading to her transfer to the ICU. The news of her death was confirmed by her son, Anand Bhosle. Her last rites are scheduled to be held on Monday.
Born in 1933 into the renowned Mangeshkar family, Asha Bhosle began her musical journey at the age of just nine. She recorded her first film song in 1943 and rose to prominence in the 1950s, becoming one of the most versatile and celebrated voices in Indian cinema.
Despite being the younger sister of Lata Mangeshkar, she carved out her own unique identity and captivated audiences for decades with her distinctive style.
Throughout her illustrious career, she received numerous prestigious honors, including the Dadasaheb Phalke Award and Banga Bibhushan. She was also nominated for a Grammy Award in 1997.
In her personal life, she married music director Rahul Dev Burman in 1980, and they remained together until his death in 1994.
Asha Bhosle’s passing marks the end of an era in Indian music, leaving behind a timeless legacy that continues to inspire generations.
