Dhaka, Jan 16, (V7N) - The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has requested the bank account details of 14 journalists, bringing the total number of journalists whose financial information has been sought to nearly 100. The BFIU issued letters to all banks on Wednesday, instructing them to provide the requested information within seven days.
 
The list of journalists includes Farid Hossain, Advisory Editor of UNB; Zulhas Alam, Bureau Chief of AP; Shahjahan Sardar, Editor of Bangladesh Journal; Ali Asif Shaon, Staff Reporter of Dhaka Tribune; Azizul Haque Bhuiyan, Editor of Daily People Life; Swapno Bosu, Sports Incharge of BSS; Rajib Ghosh, Senior Reporter of DBC News; Tahmida Sadeq Jessie, Staff Reporter of DBC News; Niladri Shekhar Kundu, Senior Reporter of Channel i; Nazrul Kabir, Journalist of Bangla TV; Iqbal Karim Nishan, News Editor of Gazi TV; Saju Rahman, Journalist at Green TV; and Aminur Rashid, former employee of Bangla Vision.
 
The BFIU has requested detailed information including account opening forms and transaction history since the account's inception.
 
A BFIU official stated that such requests for information are based on complaints or requirements from various government agencies. If irregularities are found in the accounts, measures such as freezing accounts or taking other actions may follow. Allegations of corruption, abuse of power, and spreading false information through various media outlets have prompted the review of these journalists' bank accounts.
