DHAKA, July 01 (V7N)– The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has reasserted and enforced its ban on rallies in the vicinity of Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus’s official residence, Jamuna, successfully dispersing an overnight gathering without resorting to force.
According to a DMP statement released today, a group of individuals attempted to create a "law and order situation" through an "illegal gathering" near the Jamuna. Police personnel "tactfully dispersed them without using brutal force" and brought the situation under control.
The DMP reiterated that a public notice prohibiting all types of meetings, gatherings, processions, and demonstrations in front of the Jamuna and adjacent areas remains in effect. The police force criticized attempts to undermine this ban as "undesirable."
"All concerned are requested once again to abide by the public notice issued by the DMP to refrain from spreading unnecessary confusion on the above mentioned matter," the statement concluded, urging compliance and emphasizing clarity on the regulations.
This ban on gatherings around key government installations, including the Chief Adviser's residence and the Bangladesh Secretariat, has been in place since at least May 10, 2025, with further reinforcements and specific area delimitations issued on June 9, 2025. The directives, issued under Section 29 of the DMP Ordinance, aim to maintain public order and ensure the security of the Chief Adviser amidst the ongoing political transition.
