DHAKA, July 05 (V7N) – The Holy Ashura, a day of profound religious significance commemorating the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), will be observed across Bangladesh on Sunday, July 6, 2025, with solemnity and religious fervor. This day, the 10th of Muharram in the Islamic calendar, marks the tragic event in the Hijri year of 61 when Imam Hussain, the beloved grandson of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), along with his family members and 72 devoted followers, embraced martyrdom at the desert of Karbala. Their sacrifice was made to uphold the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) against the oppressive forces of Yazid.
The day has been declared a public holiday in Bangladesh, allowing devotees to participate in various mourning rituals and commemorative events.
In Dhaka, the traditional Tazia procession will commence at 10 AM from Gate 1 of Hussaini Dalan. The procession will traverse a specific route through the capital, passing through:

Etimkhana crossing
Azimpur intersection
Nilkhet intersection

Finally concluding at Dhanmondi Lake Karbala.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has implemented comprehensive security measures to ensure the peaceful observance of Ashura in the capital. According to Acting DMP Commissioner and Additional Commissioner (Traffic) Md Sarwar, police have been deployed at key locations where Shia community members and other devotees have been participating in mourning rituals since June 27.
Strict security arrangements are particularly in place at prominent venues such as Hussaini Dalan, Boro Katara, Mohammadpur Bihari Camp, the Shia Mosque, Bibika Rauza, and Mirpur Pallabi Bihari Camp. All major Imambaras will be under continuous CCTV surveillance, and specialized DMP units will remain on standby to respond to any untoward situations.
Earlier in the day, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus issued a message highlighting the significance of the Holy Ashura. He called for the establishment of "equality, justice and peace" in society and extended wishes for the "unity, solidarity and continuous progress" of the Muslim Ummah.
In his message, Professor Yunus stated, "This sacrifice of the brave soldiers of Islam, standing against the injustice and injustice of the oppressor, will remain forever in the history of the world." He further added, "On this somber day of Holy Ashura, I pay my deepest respects to Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the beloved grandson of the greatest Prophet and Messenger Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), and all those who were tragically martyred in the desert of Karbala.”
