Sylhet, Aug 19 (V7N) - Acting on a tip-off, members of Border Guard Bangladesh launched an early morning operation on August 19 in the border-adjacent Utmachhara area under Companiganj upazila of Sylhet district. During the raid, BGB personnel discovered and seized approximately 200,000 cubic feet of stone, which had been illegally extracted and stockpiled in violation of environmental and mining regulations.
According to BGB sources, the seized stone had been gathered through unauthorized extraction from nearby riverbeds and hills, posing serious threats to the local ecology. No individuals were arrested at the scene, and authorities are currently investigating to identify those responsible for the illegal stockpiling.
The operation was carried out by a team from the 19 Battalion of Border Guard Bangladesh under the direction of commanding officers. BGB has reiterated its commitment to curbing cross-border and environmental crimes, including illegal stone extraction, particularly in sensitive and ecologically vulnerable areas.
Legal proceedings regarding the seizure are underway. The confiscated materials have been handed over to the local administration for further action.
This initiative reflects the ongoing efforts by Bangladeshi border forces to enforce environmental protection laws and uphold national resource security in border regions.
