Savar, Sept 2 (V7N) – Road Transport and Bridges Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam today inaugurated two service bridges, measuring 3.71 kilometres in total, constructed under the Dhaka-Ashulia Elevated Expressway Project, saying the expressway will ensure faster and uninterrupted connectivity between the capital and the country's northwestern region while reducing traffic congestion.
The bridges were opened to vehicular traffic today to ease pressure on Dhaka's transport system and improve movement in the Daur-Ashulia area. The minister formally opened the bridges at a ceremony on Daur Bridge. Bridges Division Secretary and Bangladesh Bridge Authority Executive Director Mohammad Abdur Rouf presided over the event.
Rabiul said 65 to 70 percent of the elevated expressway project has already been completed, with progress over the past six months exceeding targets. Utility relocation, a major challenge, was completed through coordinated efforts. The government aims to complete another major portion by next December and bring the main project close to completion within a year.
The minister stressed ensuring proper and efficient use of public funds and praised the construction firm for maintaining quality while meeting deadlines. He also highlighted China's role in Bangladesh's infrastructure development through technology and investment.
The two new service bridges will remain toll-free permanently. One will carry traffic from Daur towards Ashulia and the other from Ashulia towards Daur.
The Dhaka-Ashulia Elevated Expressway is a major infrastructure project designed to connect Dhaka's northwestern suburbs with the capital. Once fully completed, it is expected to significantly reduce travel time and ease congestion on the existing roads serving the industrial belt of Ashulia, Savar and surrounding areas. The Bangladesh Bridge Authority is overseeing implementation of the project.
