Dhaka, Nov 12 (V7N) — Awami League Advisory Council member and former minister Amir Hossain Amu has been sent to prison by court order in connection with the fatal shooting of businessman Abdul Wadud in the Newmarket area of Dhaka. The court made this decision on Tuesday after Amu was presented following his recent remand.

Amu was taken into custody by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DB) from the Dhanmondi area on November 6, after which he was remanded for six days for further investigation. The incident took place during an anti-discrimination movement protest, where Abdul Wadud lost his life in a shooting.

The investigation officer requested the court to deny Amu’s release, while his lawyer applied for bail. The state opposed the bail request, and after a hearing, the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court rejected Amu’s application, ordering him to be held in jail.

Amu, a prominent leader of the Awami League, now faces legal proceedings as the investigation into the killing continues.
