Dhaka, Feb 07 (V7N) – Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has accused Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of attempting to create a heated political atmosphere and incite fear among the people. Speaking as the chief guest at a rally organized by the district and metropolitan branches at Osmani Municipal Stadium in Narayanganj on Friday morning, Rahman warned that the freedom-loving citizens of Bangladesh would not tolerate such tactics.
Accusations of Corruption and Division
In his speech, Dr. Rahman claimed that Sheikh Hasina and members of the Awami League have stolen, looted, and smuggled money abroad. He insisted that the interim government must work to recover these funds and ensure they are used for public welfare.
“All the money that Sheikh Hasina and the leaders and activists of the Awami League have stolen, looted, and smuggled abroad from the country must be brought back by the interim government and spent for the welfare of the people,” Rahman stated.
He further alleged that the Awami League has destroyed the country's constitutional institutions, including the administration and judicial system. According to Rahman, the founding spirit of the Liberation War—which, in his view, is about ensuring equal rights for every citizen—has been undermined by the ruling party.
Blaming Awami League for National Divisions
Dr. Rahman also pointed to the divisions within the nation over the past 54 years, accusing the Awami League of deliberately fostering this discord.
“This nation has been divided for the last 54 years, and the Awami League has deliberately created this division,” he said.
Rahman emphasized that discrimination must be eradicated from society and that the people should be united in the pursuit of justice and equal rights.
Political Tensions Escalate Amid Accusations
These remarks come at a time of increased political tension in Bangladesh, with the interim government facing pressure from opposition parties and civil society to address allegations of corruption and restore democratic norms. Rahman warned that Sheikh Hasina would be held responsible for any incidents arising from what he described as her attempts to stoke unrest.
The Awami League has yet to respond to these latest accusations, but the political climate continues to intensify ahead of expected national reforms and potential elections.
