Dhaka, Feb 28 (V7N) – People's Rights Council President Nurul Haque Nur has alleged that some political factions want to keep the Awami League alive for their own political gains. Speaking at an extended meeting of the People's Rights Council on Friday morning, he stated that many parties prefer the Awami League as their main rival to maintain their political position.

Call for Electoral Reforms

Nur reiterated his demand for proportional representation elections, emphasizing that the next national election should be conducted under this system. He warned that his party is ready to mobilize street protests if necessary to push for this electoral reform.

"The dominance of certain parties has increased even before coming to power," he said, adding that other political parties are being deliberately obstructed from conducting their activities.

Criticism of Political Dynasties

Nur also criticized dynastic politics, stating that it has led to divisions in the country, society, and state affairs. He emphasized that his party does not wish to engage in historical debates or compete over achievements, but rather seeks to address systemic political issues.

Concerns Over Lack of Reforms

Expressing dissatisfaction with the current administration, Nur stated that no real political reforms have been implemented in the past six months. "The country is still being governed under the old system, and we must now move forward with a national consensus," he urged.

He also clarified that the People's Rights Council has not yet formed an alliance with any political party, signaling an independent stance in the evolving political landscape.
