Dhaka, Feb 28 (V7N) – A new political party, National Citizens Party (NCP), was officially launched today at Manik Mia Avenue near the National Parliament Building in Dhaka. This event marks the formal debut of the party that emerged from the momentum of the July mass uprising, a movement that saw widespread student and youth participation.

The debut event began with people gathering at Manik Mia Avenue from the morning, with the crowd growing after Friday prayers. By afternoon, the venue was filled with enthusiastic participants.

The inauguration ceremony began around 4:15 pm with readings from the Quran, Gita, Bible, and Tripitaka, followed by the national anthem and a minute of silence to honor the victims of the July uprising.

Key Party Leaders:

  • Nahid Islam, former advisor and student leader, was introduced as the convener of the party.
  • Akhtar Hossain, a prominent former DUCSU leader, arrived later and was appointed as the member secretary of the party.

One of the most emotional moments of the event came when Mim Akhtar, the sister of Ismail Hossain Rabbi, a martyr from the July Movement, took the stage. Mim Akhtar announced the name of the new party, and Nahid Islam and Akhtar Hossain were officially recognized in their leadership roles.

  • In his speech, Nahid Islam emphasized the party’s commitment to a united Bangladesh that rejects any form of pro-India or pro-Pakistan politics. He stressed that Bangladesh should remain a country of hope and dreams, free from division.

The event was attended by various political party leaders, including representatives from BNP and Jamaat, and diplomats from different countries stationed in Dhaka.

The National Citizens Party (NCP) has now officially entered Bangladesh’s political scene, advocating for unity and progress in the country’s future.
