Dhaka, Mar 03 (V7N) – There is growing public interest in the future plans of the Nationalist Citizens’ Party (NCP), a political party formed after the July coup. Two leaders from the NCP recently spoke to Ekattor, revealing that the party plans to complete its registration process with the Election Commission (EC) during Ramadan.
The NCP intends to submit an application to the EC for official registration after Eid. Senior party leaders have emphasized that the NCP will focus on organizing major programs aimed at political reforms, including voting and Constituent Assembly elections. These steps, they say, are part of a broader plan for political transformation in the country.
On February 28, the Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) made its debut in the political scene, led by the Young Turks—the student leaders who played a pivotal role in the July-August student uprising. The debut was marked by a grand event in the capital, raising questions about the party's next steps.
Since its formation, NCP leaders have been busy with organizational tasks, such as selecting locations for party offices, designing a logo, drafting a constitution, and expanding party committees. Samantha Sharmin, senior joint convener of the NCP, and Sarwar Tushar, joint convener, confirmed that the party's convening committee will be expanded after Eid. They also hinted at special events scheduled around March 26.
The NCP has outlined its agenda following the upcoming Eid celebrations. Party leaders have confirmed that the NCP will organize two major programs focused on political reforms and elections to the Constituent Assembly. While the party will not demand votes for the upcoming general elections, it will advocate for reforms and support the establishment of a Constituent Assembly.
Additionally, the party has expressed interest in incorporating leaders from other anti-discrimination and civic committees who align with their vision of reform. The NCP also announced that it is closely examining disagreements with other political parties to pave the way for broader cooperation on reforms and the national elections.
The NCP has also endorsed the proposal to rewrite the constitution, as suggested by the Reform Commission. The party believes that an elected Constituent Assembly will be necessary to implement these changes and drive the reforms required to strengthen the democratic process in Bangladesh.
With its focus on reforms and the Constituent Assembly, the NCP’s next steps will significantly shape the political landscape of the country in the coming months.
