Speaking to journalists on Tuesday night, Saedur Rahman Bacchu, General Secretary of the Sirajganj District BNP, confirmed the development, saying:
“Show-cause notices have been issued to 13 individuals. Most of them have already submitted their responses. If the replies are unsatisfactory or indicate a breach of party discipline, appropriate organizational measures will be taken.”
Responses from Accused Leaders
Rohit Mannan Lelin, one of the accused and an executive member of the district BNP, said:
“Some Jamaat-e-Islami activists were also present at the event. I don't know who chanted the slogan in question. I held a press conference afterward to clarify and protest, but despite that, I still received a show-cause notice.”
Background of the Incident
The disciplinary action follows an event on June 20, where BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami activists jointly visited the Shah Sharif Zindani (R.A.) shrine in Tarash upazila, offered Friday prayers, and later participated in a milad mehfil organized by BNP supporters.
After the Jamaat members left, BNP activists continued their program, held a discussion in a nearby schoolyard, and distributed cooked food. Allegations later surfaced that BNP supporters chanted slogans referencing "Tuku Bhai's symbol" (a reference to BNP Standing Committee Member Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku) and the balance scale emblem, which is associated with Jamaat-e-Islami.
This association with a rival party and the slogan incident triggered sharp reactions from party leadership and led to the current disciplinary proceedings.
