Dhaka, Dec 30 (V7N) — BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman paid a late-night visit to his mother, former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, who is currently undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital.

Tarique Rahman arrived at Evercare Hospital at around 10:15 pm on Monday and stayed there for nearly two hours, party sources said. This marked his third meeting with Khaleda Zia since returning to Bangladesh from London on December 25 after 17 years. He had previously visited the hospital on Saturday night, where he also spent about two hours with his ailing mother.

Ahead of Tarique Rahman’s visit, other members of the Zia family had gathered at the hospital earlier in the day. His wife, Dr Zubaida Rahman, visited the hospital several times to oversee Khaleda Zia’s medical care. Other family members present included her elder daughter Selima Islam, younger son Shamim Eskander, and granddaughters Zaima Rahman and Jahia Rahman.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir arrived at the hospital at 10:23 pm. Meanwhile, security in and around the hospital had been tightened in view of Khaleda Zia’s treatment. Members of the Armed Security Force, President Guard Regiment, Border Guard Bangladesh, and police were deployed in the area. The hospital’s main gate was secured with barbed-wire barricades, while members of the BNP Chairperson’s Security Force were also on duty.

Eighty-year-old Khaleda Zia has been suffering from multiple health complications, including diabetes and severe kidney, heart, and lung conditions. As part of her ongoing treatment, she is undergoing regular medical examinations under the supervision of a medical board comprising both local and foreign specialists, who are providing care based on continuous assessment of her condition.
