Dhaka, Jan 24 (V7N) — Nahid Islam, candidate for Dhaka-11 constituency nominated by the 10-party alliance and convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP), said that after 16 long years, an environment conducive to free and fair elections has finally been created in the country.

He expressed hope that voters will be able to cast their ballots without any hindrance in the upcoming national election.

Nahid Islam made the remarks on Saturday (January 24) before beginning election mass communication activities in the Bhatara area of the capital.

He alleged that a political party has already violated the electoral code of conduct and accused it of adopting a strategy to buy votes through family cards. He further claimed that voters are being given assurances that have no realistic possibility of implementation.

Calling on voters to remain cautious, Nahid Islam urged the public not to be misled by such promises.

At the same time, he said that voters in various areas are being intimidated, and appealed to citizens not to give in to fear under any circumstances.

He also instructed party leaders and activists to remain present at polling centers to help ensure that the February 12 election is conducted in a free, fair and transparent manner.
