Dhaka, Feb 10 (V7N) — The Election Commission (EC) has imposed restrictions on the movement of vehicles across the country in view of the 13th National Parliament election and referendum.

According to the EC’s directive, the movement of motorcycles will remain banned nationwide from 12:00 am on Tuesday (February 10) until 12:00 am on February 13.

In addition, the movement of taxi cabs, pickup vans, microbuses, and trucks will be restricted from 12:00 am on February 11 to 12:00 am on February 12.

However, the EC clarified that the restrictions will not apply to all vehicles. Vehicles belonging to law enforcement agencies, the armed forces, the administration, and accredited election observers will be exempted from the ban.

Vehicles engaged in emergency services, including those transporting medicines, healthcare supplies, medical services, and similar essential goods, will also be allowed to operate. All types of vehicles carrying newspapers have been exempted as well.

For the convenience of travelers, vehicles going to or coming from airports will be permitted, provided passengers can show air tickets or valid proof of travel. The ban will also be relaxed for vehicles carrying long-distance passengers, as well as vehicles used for local travel linked to long-distance journeys.

Furthermore, the EC stated that contesting candidates and their election agents will be allowed to use one small vehicle each—such as a jeep, car, or microbus—subject to prior approval from the Returning Officer and the display of authorized stickers.

The EC said the restrictions are aimed at ensuring a peaceful, orderly, and fair election environment across the country.
