After failing to receive a reaction from the public, the BNP said on Monday that the candidates and supporters of the ruling party are threatening to discontinue offering different state facilities and allowances to voters who choose not to cast ballots on January 7.
BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi stated, "The vote-robber regime has been applying an inhumane way of torture to compel helpless voters to go to the polling stations as part of its evil efforts to dodge the democratic world by showing a large turnout."
Speaking at a virtual Press Brifing, he claimed that the state apparatus and the whole "Awami clique," including Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, were getting nervous since the ridiculous mock election of seat sharing and distribution was not gaining traction.
They have now begun intimidating the electorate in several ways. The BNP leader claimed, "There are even threats to halt the delivery of fertilizers, seeds, OMS, widow's allowance, maternity allowance, and elderly allowance among farmers if they skip voting.
Additionally, according to Rizvi, the Awami League has targeted roughly two crore recipients of government-provided cards that offer a variety of benefits as part of the social safety net.
"The beneficiaries' and their families' cards are being collected by administration officials who support the ruling party; these cards will be returned once the voters have cast their ballots. He remarked, "Those who refuse to use their right to vote are receiving threats to have their cards cancelled."
Additionally, he attacked Election Commissioner Md. Anisur Rahman for threatening to fine, detain, and imprison anyone attempting to obstruct voting or distribute flyers encouraging people not to visit polling places.
The BNP leader claimed that because of the government's repressive actions, the entire nation has been transformed into an unbelievable hell and jail. "Death and torture are commonplace in prisons."
As of Monday at 5 p.m., he asserted, over 195 leaders and activists of the BNP and its affiliate organizations had been taken into custody nationwide over the previous 24 hours.
The BNP chairman added that since the election schedule was announced on November 15, 11,270 BNP leaders and employees had been imprisoned.
