lDhaka, August 20-- A legal case has been lodged accusing former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, and 25 others of shooting and killing garment worker Sohel Rana during the quota reform movement in Adabar, Dhaka.
Ibrahim, Sohel Rana's brother, filed the case in the court of Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sultan Sohag Uddin on Tuesday. The court has taken the statement of the plaintiff and instructed the Adabar police station to record the case as evidence.
The lawsuit names several high-profile defendants, including Sheikh Hasina, Obaidul Quader, former Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Tapas, former Interior Minister Md. Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, Jubo League Chairman Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash, and Chhatra League leaders Md. Saddam Hossain and Sheikh Wali Asif Inan. Other notable figures named include former DB Chief Harun Or Rashid and former DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman.
According to the plaintiff's lawyer, the case alleges that during the nationwide quota reform protests, police and members of various Awami League affiliated groups, including Chhatra League and Jubo League, fired indiscriminately on protesters. This resulted in several deaths and injuries, including the fatal shooting of Sohel Rana, who was pronounced dead upon arrival at Shaheed Suhrawardy Hospital.
In addition to this case, it has been reported that Sheikh Hasina is facing at least 15 other legal cases following her departure from office. These include 12 murder cases, one case of genocide, one case of kidnapping, and one case of attempted murder.
