Nov 27, (V7N) - Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has lauded Robert Lewandowski's "unbelievable" achievement after the striker reached a century of Champions League goals in a 3-0 win over Brest on Tuesday. Lewandowski, now with 101 Champions League goals, became only the third player in history to reach this milestone, following Cristiano Ronaldo (140 goals) and Lionel Messi (129 goals).
Flick, who worked with Lewandowski at Bayern Munich, praised the veteran forward, saying, "I know him two years from Munich, there he also broke every record you can break, and now he's also scoring... it’s important for us." Lewandowski’s first goal came from a penalty after Brest goalkeeper Marco Bizot fouled him, and his second was a composed finish late in the match to secure the victory for Barcelona.
The Polish striker’s 101 Champions League goals have come in 125 appearances, spread across his time at Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, and Barcelona. Lewandowski expressed his pride after reaching the century mark, admitting that he never thought he would achieve such a feat when he first started his career.
The 36-year-old's remarkable consistency in Europe has seen him continue his fine form under Flick this season, scoring 22 goals in 19 appearances across both La Liga and the Champions League. Lewandowski's Champions League title came with Bayern in 2020, and he was also a runner-up with Dortmund in 2013.
