Jan 15, (V7N) - Carlos Alcaraz delivered a dominant performance at the Australian Open, cruising into the third round with a commanding 6-0, 6-1, 6-4 victory over Japan's Yoshihito Nishioka in just 81 minutes. The Spanish third seed showcased his power and precision on Margaret Court Arena, losing only five games in the match.

Alcaraz, a four-time Grand Slam winner and reigning Roland Garros and Wimbledon champion, emphasized the importance of conserving energy in the early rounds. "The less time you spend on court in the Grand Slams, especially in the beginning, it is going to be better," said the 21-year-old, who has yet to surpass the quarterfinals in Melbourne.

With his sights set on becoming the youngest Australian Open men’s champion since Novak Djokovic in 2008, Alcaraz is also aiming to complete a career Grand Slam. His performance so far suggests he is well-positioned to make history.

Nishioka struggled to keep pace, particularly in the first set, where he won only four points. Alcaraz's off-season adjustments, including a lighter racquet and improved serving, paid off as he fired five aces in the second set and won 91% of his first-serve points. "I'm really happy with the serve today. It's something I worked on in the pre-season," Alcaraz noted.

Despite a more competitive third set, Nishioka couldn’t bridge the gap in quality, and Alcaraz comfortably secured his spot in the next round.
