BARCELONA, Jan 24, (V7N) — Barcelona will aim to capitalize on their recent Champions League triumph over Benfica as they look to end a dismal La Liga run when they host Valencia on Sunday. The Catalan side has managed just one win in their last eight league outings, leaving them seven points adrift of league leaders Real Madrid.
Valencia, rejuvenated under new coach Carlos Corberan, will provide a stern test. Corberan, appointed on Christmas Day, has already inspired a turnaround, including an impressive 1-0 victory against Real Sociedad and a narrow 2-1 loss to Real Madrid. His side climbed off the bottom of the table to 19th, just four points from safety.
Barcelona's league struggles were evident in last Saturday's frustrating 1-1 draw with Getafe, where the hosts' defensive approach stifled Barça’s attack. Manager Hansi Flick acknowledged the need to address defensive lapses and improve against compact defenses.
"We will analyze everything and make it better," Flick said, emphasizing the need for technical adjustments and improved focus in training.
Barcelona will rely on Robert Lewandowski, who netted twice midweek but has just one goal in his last five league matches. The team will also hope for a stronger display from 16-year-old sensation Lamine Yamal, who was effectively contained by Getafe.
Valencia, meanwhile, has shown resilience and improvement under Corberan, who stressed the importance of consistency and growth.
"We're growing in personality, dedication, and commitment, and we must consolidate that," Corberan said.
With La Liga’s top scorer Robert Lewandowski leading Barcelona and Valencia showing signs of revival, Sunday’s clash promises to be critical for both teams’ aspirations.
