MONACO, June 28, (V7N) — Barcelona forward Ansu Fati is poised to join French club AS Monaco on a season-long loan with an €11 million option to buy, sources familiar with the deal confirmed Friday.
The 22-year-old Spanish international passed his medical earlier in the day, with the agreement between Monaco and Barcelona expected to be officially signed on July 1. The move gives Fati a fresh chance to revive a once-blazing career that has struggled for momentum in recent years.
Fati made headlines in 2019 as a teenage sensation at Barcelona but has since battled form and fitness issues. He played only 11 matches for the Catalan giants last season without scoring, after a moderately successful loan spell at Brighton in 2023/24, where he netted four times in 27 appearances.
Monaco’s summer rebuild continues with Fati likely to become their third signing. Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is also close to joining the Ligue 1 side, pending medical clearance. The 2018 World Cup winner has been a free agent since Juventus terminated his contract in March amid an 18-month doping suspension.
England defender Eric Dier, formerly of Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich, has also reportedly signed with Monaco.
The club is expected to unveil all three high-profile signings — Fati, Pogba, and Dier — at a press event on July 3.
