WASHINGTON, March 13, 2026 (V7N) – Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander etched his name into the record books Thursday, breaking Wilt Chamberlain’s 63-year-old mark for consecutive 20-point games.
The reigning MVP delivered his 127th straight 20-point performance, scoring 35 points on 13-of-18 shooting in the Thunder’s nail-biting 104-102 win over the Boston Celtics. He added nine assists, six rebounds, three blocks and two steals in a complete display of dominance.
“I would have given the record for the W any day of the week,” Gilgeous-Alexander said after the game. “I’m glad we won and I got the record.”
The milestone came midway through the third quarter when he sank a 20-foot jumper from the top of the key, giving him 21 points and surpassing Chamberlain’s streak of 126 set in 1963.
The game itself was decided in dramatic fashion. Rookie big man Chet Holmgren sank two free throws with 0.8 seconds left to secure the win. Boston’s Payton Pritchard missed a buzzer-beater that would have stolen victory.
With the win, Oklahoma City improved to an NBA-best 52-15, extending their streak to seven games, while Boston dropped to 43-23.
Since November 2024, Gilgeous-Alexander has averaged 35.5 points per game on 53.5% shooting, producing five 50-point games, 18 40-point outings, and 85 30-point performances. His consistency has been unmatched in modern basketball.
“I didn’t like how I started tonight,” he admitted, after scoring just 10 in the first quarter. “I wanted to get the car back on the road and make sure we walked out of here with a W.”
