LONDON, June 2, 2026 (V7N) – Liverpool and Scotland great Kenny Dalglish has revealed he is undergoing treatment for cancer. The 75-year-old former forward issued a statement on Tuesday after an inadvertent social media post disclosed his health situation.

"I am currently undergoing treatment for cancer," Dalglish said. "Unlike my mobile phone use, the treatment is going well. Ideally this would have remained private, but my useless technology skills have forced my hand." He requested that his family's privacy be respected moving forward.

Liverpool sent their "support, best wishes and love" to Dalglish, underscoring his request for privacy. The statement came just 24 hours after it was revealed that Liverpool star Kevin Keegan has stage four cancer. Dalglish was originally signed from Celtic in 1977 to replace Keegan.

Dalglish, nicknamed "King Kenny" by Liverpool fans, won six English titles and three European Cups as a player. As player-manager, he won the English title and FA Cup in his first season. He was widely praised for his handling of the Hillsborough tragedy in 1989, which claimed 97 lives.

Dalglish later managed Blackburn Rovers to the Premier League title in 1995 and had a second spell as Liverpool boss. He remains a regular at Liverpool games as a non-executive director, and a stand at Anfield was named after him in 2018.
